Real Madrid are releasing flop Royston Drenthe from his contract to allow the winger to join English club Everton.

Drenthe has no place at the Bernabeu and coach Jose Mourinho is keen to offload the Dutchman.

The 24-year-old has therefore been allowed to move to Premier League side Everton without a fee as Real Madrid part company with a player brought to the Spanish capital in 2007 at a cost of €14M.

Drenthe spent last season on loan with Hercules, but could not help the side avoid relegation from La Liga.

The former Feyenoord player will now look to relaunch a career which has flagged in recent years at Goodison Park.
