Sunderland have snapped up Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal.

Black Cats’ boss Steve Bruce is a long time admirer of the 23-year-old and is set to hand the hitman the regular first team football he craves.

Bendtner had been linked with an exit from Arsenal for much of the summer transfer window, as he grew frustrated at failing to be handed a starting role at the Emirates.

The Danish forward will now have an opportunity to prove his worth as a first choice Premier League striker.

Bendtner was linked with FC Porto earlier during transfer deadline day, but Sunderland have beaten off the Portuguese giants.
