Mikel Arteta has spoken of his delight at joining Arsenal.

The Spanish midfielder moved from Everton to the Gunners late last night in a deal which switched from being ‘on’ to ‘off’ and back ‘on’ again in a matter of hours.

But the 29-year-old eventually signed on the dotted line for Arsene Wenger’s men after informing Everton manager David Moyes of his wish to leave Goodison Park. Arteta cost Arsenal £10M.

“It is a big opportunity for me and my family and I think it is the right time for me to take it”, said Arteta.

“It is a big challenge, a different challenge, fresh for me and I want to see myself on the biggest stage, the Champions League.

“I am 29 years old, so I haven’t much time to take a chance like this one. I think I have done my best for Everton”, added the midfielder.
