Vincenzo Iaquinta was turned down by French side Saint-Etienne on transfer deadline day, but was wanted by their Ligue 1 rivals Bordeaux.

However, in a strange twist, the 31-year-old striker did not want to move to Bordeaux and so any chance of him landing in France came to an abrupt halt.

The Italian had been courted by Bordeaux who believed he would make a valuable addition to their forward line.

But Iaquinta was not so sure and opted to stay put.

Now the Juventus forward faces the prospect of warming the bench in Turin this season.

Bordeaux could try again for the Italian when the January transfer window opens.
