Liverpool have suffered a blow with the news that Brazilian midfielder Lucas will miss the rest of the season.
Lucas picked up a cruciate knee ligament injury during the Reds’ 2-0 League Cup quarter-final win over Chelsea in midweek.
And upon closer inspection, Lucas’ injury is such that he will miss the rest of the campaign.
The 24-year-old is due to undergo surgery before spending a spell on the sidelines and will aim to return for the 2012/13 season.
Lucas has become a firm favourite at Anfield after an initially difficult introduction to English football under Rafael Benitez and his absence is a blow to manager Kenny Dalglish.
Liverpool have recalled midfielder Jonjo Shelvey from Blackpool as a result.
