Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa has revealed that he pays no attention to what rivals Barcelona are doing on the pitch because he is so focused on the job at hand with Los Blancos.
Jose Mourinho’s side lead Barcelona in La Liga and, with El Clasico on the horizon, could well end Barcelona’s dominance of Spanish football.
And whether that happens is, in Arbeloa’s eyes, entirely down to what Real Madrid do on the pitch rather than their rivals’ performances.
"I don’t become engaged in what Barcelona are doing", said the former Liverpool defender.
"I’ve been so busy with Real that I don’t have the time for it.
"I also believe that we should not focus on others.
"As a club you should always rely on your own performances, so even with Barcelona, we pay no attention."
