Andre Villas-Boas has revealed he has been assured by the Chelsea board that, even if the club were to end the season without a single piece of silverware, he would keep his job.
Pressure is mounting on the Portuguese as Chelsea’s mixed form threatens to derail their Champions League and Premier League charges – events which would lead to a whirlwind of speculation around his position.
A midweek League Cup exit to Liverpool, at Stamford Bridge, has also cranked up the spotlight on Villas-Boas.
Asked whether he would keep his job if Chelsea ended up potless, Villas-Boas commented: "I have that assurance.
"Conversations have been ongoing with the board and they have been fully supportive."
The former FC Porto boss also insisted that he has not been handed a timetable for success.
"There are no schedules for achieving different kinds of things.
"We are not avoiding our responsibilities towards this year, that is for sure. If we fail this year, like we failed last year, we were not up to our standards, so we need to see where we missed."
