Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has backed the English Football Association to only recruit Fabio Capello’s successor as England manager next year.
Capello is due to quit as national team boss after next summer’s Euro 2012 and Redknapp believes that only once the season has ended should a new man be appointed.
Settling on England’s next coach while Capello is still in post could be a recipe for disaster according to the Spurs chief.
"It’s very difficult for [the FA] to choose another manager if he’s already working", said Redknapp.
"It wouldn’t be fair to the club.
"You can’t do it during the season."
Redknapp is amongst the favourites to take over from Capello, but faces competition from the likes of Roy Hodgson (West Brom) and Alan Pardew (Newcastle), who have both been linked with the post.
