Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has admitted the time is coming where he must decide over strengthening his squad in January.

The former FC Porto coach has had a bumpy ride as Blues boss of late and the idea of dipping into the winter transfer window to refresh his side could prove a tempting one.

But the amount of business Chelsea do looks set to be governed by what players leave, just as much as who Villas-Boas wants to bring in.

And the 34-year-old admits that decisions lie ahead.

"We have to decide if we want to strengthen the squad or not", said Villas-Boas, while stressing players leaving could be key too.

"We’ll have to see if we are approached by any club regarding our players, which can happen as well, and then make the wisest of decisions."

Chelsea face a make-or-break December, with a tough Champions League match against Valencia on the horizon.
