Barcelona president Sandro Rosell is hoping that Josep Guardiola will become to the Catalan giants what Sir Alex Ferguson is to Manchester United.

Guardiola has enjoyed unprecedented success since taking charge at the Camp Nou in 2008, picking up two Champions Leagues, three La Ligas, one Copa del Rey, three Spanish Supercups, two UEFA Super Cups and one Club World Cup.

In short, the 40-year-old has delivered an astonishing amount of silverware.

But Guardiola has oft stated his view that coaching Barcelona is not something a manager can do on a long term basis.

President Rosell however is hoping that the former midfielder changes his mind on that point.

"I believe that Pep could spend more time here than Alex Ferguson has done at Manchester United.

"My dream is that Pep will be our Ferguson", said Rosell.

"Guardiola represents all the characteristics of the Barca movement", added the president.
