Marseille striker Loic Remy has played down talk of a move to Arsenal.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is known to be on the lookout for further firepower to add to his squad in January as he seeks to take the heat off Dutchman Robin van Persie.

Wenger recently admitted that Arsenal are too reliant on Van Persie to score the team’s goals and Remy, who has been Marseille’s brightest light this season, had been suggested as a possible target.

The 24-year-old has been Marseille’s main attacking threat, in much the same way that Van Persie has dominated Arsenal’s scoring charts, and coach Didier Deschamps would be reluctant to lose his services.

Luckily for Deschamps, Remy is happy at the Stade Velodrome and has stressed that, when joining the club last summer, he did not sign a five-year contract for nothing.

"I am an honest person", Remy told RMC when speaking out about transfer speculation swirling in the air, adding: "I did not sign a five-year deal casually."

And the prolific goal-getter believes he has to pay Marseille back for their faith in him – the French side stood by Remy despite the striker having a heart defect detected upon his medical following the agreement of a fee with Nice.

"I owe a lot to Marseille", said Remy, "and I would like to stay here."

Nevertheless, Remy is clear that interest from Arsenal is flattering, even if at the same time pointless.

"Arsenal? I am honoured, but I am not interested.

"All I want is to do well for the team and our fans."
