Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is staying positive despite a season-ending injury to Brazilian midfielder Lucas.

The 24-year-old injured his cruciate knee ligament during the club’s 2-0 League Cup win away at Chelsea in midweek, bringing his involvement in the current campaign to an end.

For Dalglish, losing the key man is a blow, but one that the Scot feels his squad must ensure that he can cope with.

"He has been playing really well", said Dalglish of Lucas.

"We are disappointed he has picked up an injury, but it is not career-threatening.

"Lucas is not moping about feeling sorry for himself. We can do that, we can feel sorry for him.

"But we cannot feel sorry for ourselves and we have plenty of people who can have a go and won’t let us down."
