Manchester United have suffered a blow with the news that Mexican striker Javier Hernandez will miss three to four weeks due to an ankle injury.
Hernandez picked up the knock during his side’s 1-0 win away at Aston Villa yesterday – receiving an injury which has now been confirmed as torn ankle ligaments.
"I think he’s torn ligaments in his ankle", said Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
"He’ll be out for between three and four weeks."
The Red Devils will therefore be without the striker’s services for their crucial Champions League clash against FC Basel on Wednesday, while the critical Christmas period is also looming as Ferguson bids to overhaul Manchester City in the Premier League.
Roberto Mancini’s side sit five points ahead of Ferguson’s men.
