La Liga has dominated the shortlist for the 2011 Ballon d’Or.
In with a chance of winning football’s most prestigious award are Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) and Xavi (Barcelona).
Argentine wizard Messi picked up the accolade in 2009 and 2010, while Portuguese forward Ronaldo landed the Ballon d’Or in 2008.
Pass-master Xavi meanwhile finished second last year.
The Ballon d’Or is voted for by journalists and coaches.
The winner will be announced on 9th January.
