Rafael Benitez has been linked with a return to the game with Paris Saint-Germain.

The former Liverpool manager, who has been out of work since parting company with Inter in December 2010, is reported by Al Jazeera as having been settled on by PSG’s Qatari owners.

Current coach Antoine Kombouare has long operated under a cloud at the Parc des Prince, with speculation that PSG want a bigger name to spearhead their charge to the top of European football.

Any move to sack Kombouare would be harsh on a boss who has led the French side to challenging for the Ligue 1 title this season.

Nevertheless, PSG are believed to have identified Benitez as the perfect man to take the side to the next level and also handle the superstar names and even bigger talents within the squad.

Benitez’ agent has played down the talk, insisting his client is yet to be approached.

That though could be just a matter of time.
