Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini believes that Bayern Munich, along with everyone else in Europe, are worried about the Citizens becoming one of the biggest clubs in world football.
The Bavarians’ leadership have been regular commentators on City’s Middle Eastern investment, and CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has once again expressed concern over the English side’s financial power.
Rummenigge believes that City could have trouble living within UEFA’s financial fair play rules; but his public comments have angered and disappointed Mancini.
Indeed, the Italian thinks the Bundesliga giants, who themselves enjoy a favourable financial disparity with the rest of German football, are running scared.
“I don’t understand his behaviour. We’re working hard with the financial rules, said Mancini.
"There are other clubs with financial fair play problems, not just City.
And the Italian is bemused at Rummenigge’s sniping, only being able to conclude he is worried about City’s rise and rise.
"I don’t know why an important man like him, from a big club, and a great player, keeps talking about us.
“I want to ask him after the game.
“I think everybody is worried about Manchester City becoming one of the great clubs, but why is he always talking about us?”
