Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund are believed to have reiterated their stance to Arsenal that Mario Gotze is not for sale at any price.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has remained keen on the 19-year-old despite having soundings for the Germany midfielder knocked back over the summer.
And Arsenal have stood by ready to make a concrete bid when the January transfer window opens, with an offer of up to £30M mooted.
But the English club are thought to have been informed through informal channels that any offer for Gotze would be pointless as, whatever the amount, Dortmund would instantly reject it.
Dortmund are determined to keep hold of Gotze for the foreseeable future, with coach Jurgen Klopp insisting that the wonderkid is key to his plans to end Bayern Munich’s domination of German football and place the Ruhr giants in the driving seat.
The German club also believe that Gotze is set to get even better, meaning that his value will only increase with a further one or two campaigns in the Bundesliga under his belt.
Gotze himself meanwhile is understood not to be pushing for a move, though remaining understandably flattered by Arsenal’s continuing interest.
The chances of the 19-year-old ending up at the Emirates Stadium in January therefore look slim to none.
