Santos hitman Neymar has been voted the player of the year for this season’s Brasileirao.

The league title was won by Corinthians, who finished two points ahead of Vasco da Gama in what had been a tightly contested race.

But while Corinthians took the team plaudits, Neymar banks the individual acclaim.

The 19-year-old, who has been chased by some of the biggest clubs in European football, scored 13 goals in 21 league games and pipped Corinthians hitman Liedson and Vasco da Gama defender Dede to the award.

Neymar will now focus on trying to help Santos win the Club World Cup in Japan this month, a competition in which they will come face to face with Barcelona.

The Brazilian was recently labelled a "player I would sign", by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who bemoaned not having enough money to complete a swoop.
