Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is not dwelling on the side’s Champions League exit and has instead pledged to do all he can to help the Citizens win the Europa League.

Mancini’s men did all they could at Eastlands last night, beating Bayern Munich 2-0, but still finished third in Group A as Napoli won by the same scoreline in Spain against Villarreal.

The sequence of results means that City exit at the group stage in their first ever Champions League campaign – although they do drop down to the Europa League by virtue of finishing fourth.

And Europe’s much maligned second tier competition will not be dismissed by Mancini.

"I think that for Manchester City it is an important trophy, because we need to win more trophies if possible", said the Italian of the Europa League.

"It is not the Champions League, but it will be important.

"If we can go to the final I think for Manchester City it will be good."

The Italian does admit though that the competition presents a problem for the club’s Premier League charge.

"The Europa League is harder because we play Thursday and we won’t have a lot of time to recover for the games.

"But this will be the only difference."
