Wayne Rooney has had his international ban reduced to two games on appeal.

The Manchester United forward had been given a three-match suspension for kicking a Montenegro player in England’s 2-2 draw with the Balkan country in October.

England coach Fabio Capello quickly announced his intention to take Rooney to Euro 2012 despite the fact that his three-game ban would rule him out of all the country’s group games.

Now though Rooney will be available for England’s final Group D clash against co-hosts Ukraine, although he will still miss earlier matches against Sweden and France.

"The ban applies only to national team competition governed by UEFA", said a UEFA spokesperson.

The third game of Rooney’s original ban will now only come into effect if the striker is sent off in another European Championship match.

Rooney has also agreed to do one day of community service at a project run by UEFA.
