Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic is looking at several months on the sidelines according to his agent.
Vidic was injured in Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat away to Basel on Wednesday, a result which saw the English champions exit the Champions League and end up in the Europa League.
But whether Vidic will play any part in that European campaign, or even United’s Premier League defence, is unclear as the extent of his injury is opaque.
According to the player’s agent Silvano Martina though, the signs do not look good.
"It seems that Nemanja has damaged his knee ligaments quite badly", commented Martina.
"That would mean an absence of several months."
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson may now have to make do without the experienced Serbian stopper, as he battles Manchester City, for an extended period.
