Paris Saint-Germain have begun to take an interest in Manchester United target Nicolas Gaitan.

The Benfica midfielder has attracted attention from the English champions, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson believed to be pondering making a bid for the 23-year-old.

Ferguson cast his eye over Gaitan first hand in the Champions League group stage after the Argentine featured in both the Portuguese club’s games against the Red Devils.

But now interest in Gaitan is coming from France’s petrodollar fuelled giants PSG.

The Ligue 1 outfit sent scouts to take in Gaitan’s performance against Romanian side Otelul Galati in Benfica’s final Group C match on Wednesday.

And by all accounts PSG were impressed and a bid could well be forthcoming in January.

PSG sporting director Leonardo would have little trouble finding the money required to snap up the Argentine, the only question mark remains over whether Gaitan would be prepared to head to the Parc des Prince, especially with Manchester United known to be keen.
