Inter are considering a swoop for Chelsea striker Didier Drogba in January according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Nerazzurri are enduring a torrid season and even though new coach Claudio Ranieri has helped the team to rise gradually up the Serie A standings, a boost is felt to be needed to allow the side to push on in the second half of the campaign.

Despite beating Fiorentina (2-0) at the San Siro yesterday, Inter still remain ten points off a Champions League spot and 12 behind league leaders Juventus.

Ranieri is desperate to bolster his squad in January and the prospect of signing Drogba from Chelsea is an attractive, if expensive, one.

Inter’s rivals AC Milan were interested in the Ivory Coast striker, but Drogba was unwilling to consider a six-month loan at the Rossoneri, with a chance of the deal becoming permanent should he impress, because he believes he has nothing to prove.

The Nerazzurri however would seek to sign Drogba on an outright deal at once, something which the Italian giants believe the 33-year-old may be willing to consider.

Drogba is set to leave Chelsea either in January or when his contract expires at the end of the season, having rejected an extension put to him by the Blues.

A spell in Serie A could prove attractive.
