Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh is coming to terms the the likelihood of an exit from Arsenal next summer, and has explained that a return to Bordeaux is possible.

Chamakh ran down his contract with the French side to join Arsenal in 2010 on a free transfer.

But at the Emirates Stadium the striker has struggled to cement a first team spot and manager Arsene Wenger appears to prefer other options to provide his primary attacking threat.

Yet Chamakh, who will have a break from his Arsenal career to participate in 2012’s African Cup of Nations, has remained keen to stay and fight for his place in North London.

The 27-year-old recently ignored attempts by Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud to contact him over a potential move in January – but a change of heart is in the air.

"It’s clear that next summer I’ll have to make a decision because I need to play", Chamakh told TF1.

"I was pleasantly surprised by the proposals received by my agent, but I’ll finish the season at Arsenal, for sure.

"After that, I thought I heard that the president of Bordeaux tried to reach me.

"I’ll sort that out because I did not know about it.

"I always keep Bordeaux in mind and after here we’d have to find an agreement.

"But if I have to return to France, it will be to Bordeaux. I’m really attached to this club, this city. At least it’s clear."

Chamakh has made six appearances so far in this season’s English Premier League, managing just one goal.
