Lyon midfielder Yoann Gourcuff has ruled out leaving the Stade Gerland in January, explaining that a good run in Remi Garde’s team is critical to his hopes of doing well at Euro 2012.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is a confirmed admirer of Gourcuff, something that has flattered the Lyon star, and has admitted he is likely to bid for the playmaker in future.
But Wenger would be wasting his time if he made a bid for the Frenchman in the winter window, despite the fact that Lyon do have a slight financial deficit to address – Aly Cissokho is tipped to be sold to balance the books.
Gourcuff, who is seen as a jewel in the crown and cost €22M to buy from Bordeaux in 2010, is set to stay, until next summer at least.
"I’m here. I’m at Lyon and I’m quiet", Gourcuff told Canal Football Club.
"My goal is to have the best season with Lyon, to produce a good performance in the second half of the season with Lyon and then go to the Euros."
Should Gourcuff, who missed pre-season and the start of the Ligue 1 campaign with injury, derailing Wenger’s planned bid, hit the heights in Poland/Ukraine, the vultures can be expected to start circling once again.
