Hot on the heels of Yoann Gourcuff’s declaration that he is not prepared to leave Lyon in the January transfer window, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed he was not plotting a swoop anyway.
The Gunners boss is on record as being an admirer of Gourcuff and admitted he would have bid for the playmaker over the summer had he not been sidelined through injury.
Wenger also confirmed that he would return for the former AC Milan schemer at some point in the future, such is the extent to which he rates his talents.
No attempt though will be made in January.
"He is a player I like a lot and I believe people have been very critical of him in France", Wenger said to Canal+ about the man who cost Lyon €22M to buy from Bordeaux a year ago.
"However, we won’t be in the market for any midfield players in the winter, considering that our own players are back from injury."
