Former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt has stated his belief that Sir Alex Ferguson will sign players in the January transfer window.

 

So far Ferguson has played his cards close to his chest over potential reinforcements, suggesting it is unlikely he will make signings in the winter window, while the club’s exit from the Champions League will have also affected just how loose the purse strings will be at Old Trafford.

 

But Butt is in no doubt that, if the right players become available, then the English champions will find the money and complete a swoop.

 

"Every team can improve", Butt told Manchester United’s official website.

 

"Even Barcelona can improve, so I’m sure Sir Alex will sign players, whether it be in midfield, defence or up front.

 

"He’s always looking to enhance his squad."

 

Ferguson’s men sit just two points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City in the standings and also hold a five-point lead over third placed Chelsea.
