Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga is moving closer to a switch to Newcastle United.
The Premier League outfit, who tried and failed to buy the Mali international last summer, have agreed a fee of €7M for the 24-year-old.
And as the Magpies work overtime to ensure Maiga’s deal progresses smoothly as soon as the transfer window opens in January, medical checks are scheduled.
Indeed, the forward is expected to travel to London either today or on Thursday to undergo a series of medical examinations at the hands of Newcastle’s team.
Maiga will also seek to answer any questions Newcastle’s doctors may have about his left knee, which has been a cause for concern.
The Mali man’s form has been up and down for Sochaux this season as he has struggled to overcome the disappointment of missing out on a move to St. James’ Park in the summer.
Last season Maiga hit 15 goals for Sochaux, while in the present campaign he has managed just four in a side that have stuttered.
Sochaux’s search for a replacement is well under way.
