Liverpool have joined the race for promising Cliftonville striker Rory Donnelly.
The 19-year-old has already been the subject of a £100,000 bid from Swansea City, but Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish took the step of telephoning Cliftonville chairman Gerard Lawlor on Sunday to state his interest in snapping up the talent.
Donnelly has scored 17 goals this season for the Belfast-based outfit and the club have fielded a multitude of enquiries.
Swansea’s bid has been accepted and Cliftonville are keen to sort the player’s future out before Christmas – hence Dalglish’s hurry to register the Reds’ desire for the striker.
"It’s not every day you get Kenny Dalglish ringing you and asking how the Reds got on at the weekend", Lawlor told the Belfast Telegraph.
“He’s made it clear that Liverpool want to sign him and that they would be back in touch.”
Donnelly is also believed to be on Everton’s wanted list and his agent is set to talk to the Toffees over a potential move.
