Luis Suarez has been banned for eight games and fined £40,000 by the English Football Association after being found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra.

The Uruguayan had clashed with Evra during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United on 15th October.

The FA found that Suarez "used insulting words towards Mr Evra during he match contrary to FA Rule E3(1); the insulting words used by Mr Suarez included a reference to Mr Evra’s colour within the meaning of Rule E3(2)."

Suarez was also warned about his future conduct, while the penalty is suspended pending the outcome of any appeal lodged by the Liverpool striker.

The Uruguayan has 14 days to appeal.

The news will be a big blow to Liverpool and robs the side of their most potent striker.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish may now decide to enter the January transfer market.
