Croatian forward Ivica Olic has been linked with a surprise move to Manchester United.

Reports in Croatia suggest that Ferguson is considering taking the 32-year-old to Old Trafford in the January transfer window, with memories of how Olic helped Bayern Munich to the 2010 Champions League final still fresh in the United manager’s mind.

Olic has fallen out of favour under Jupp Heynckes at the Allianz Arena this season and is looking for the exit door.

Bayern will allow the former Hamburg striker to depart for a nominal fee in the winter window, with his contract up at the end of the season.

Ferguson has, according to Croatian newspaper Jutarnji List, been prompted to move for Olic on the basis of a glowing reference from United legend Eric Cantona, who continues to be in close contact with his former manager.

While Olic will no doubt be flattered if Ferguson firms up his interest with an official offer, the 32-year-old could have some concern over the amount of first team football he would receive at Old Trafford.

Olic is keen to be in tip-top condition for Euro 2012 – one of the main reasons for his unhappiness at the Allianz Arena is a lack of game time.

Wolfsburg also stand interested in the hitman and Olic would be assured of a leading role at the Volkswagen Arena.
