Guus Hiddink is believed to have agreed terms with wealthy Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala to become the club’s new manager.

 

Sources in Russia and Holland have confirmed that the former Chelsea manager has signalled his willingness to ink a deal until the end of the season, with the possibility of a further one-year extension upon the conclusion of the current campaign.

 

For Anzhi, the appointment of Hiddink will represent a coup and delivers the club’s billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov with the big name in the dugout he has craved.

 

With a cavalcade of superstar arrivals, including Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o, the Dagestan giants have long considered that an equally well known figure is needed to get the best out of the side’s established internationals.

 

Crucially Hiddink also has experience of working in Russia, having coached the country’s national team at Euro 2008, where he led the side to a quarter-final appearance.

 

The Dutchman will earn an estimated €8M per year with Anzhi and will be tasked with leading the club into the Champions League, with owner Kerimov’s ultimate aim being to win the trophy.

 

Hiddink will succeed Gadzhi Gadzhiyev, who was sacked as Anzhi boss in September.
