Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that the Blues are tracking Bolton Wanderers centre back Gary Cahill.

The England international is out of contract at the Reebok Stadium at the of the season and Bolton have been tipped to sell him in January for a knockdown fee rather than see him exit the club for free in the summer.

Chelsea are believed to have been monitoring Cahill for some time and Villas-Boas has admitted the Stamford Bridge outfit continue to pay close attention to his situation.

"We are aware of Gary’s contractual situation", said the Portuguese.

"He is an interesting player for the club", Villas-Boas added.

Chelsea have seen David Luiz struggle at times this season while fellow centre back John Terry is under investigation for alleged racist comments made to Queens Park Rangers player Anton Ferdinand.

Meanwhile Brazilian stopper Alex is expected to leave the club, after being put on the transfer list, only increasing Chelsea’s defensive needs.
