Russian champions Zenit St. Petersburg are lining up a bid for Arsenal midfielder Andrei Arshavin.
The creative schemer began his career with Zenit and represented the club until 2009, when he was sold to the Gunners in that year’s January transfer window.
Zenit have however always been open in their desire to once again see their youth product pull on his old side’s shirt and the time appears to be approaching where moves are made to make this a reality.
The reigning Russian Premier League holders have noted that Arshavin may be available for the right price, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger thought ready to allow the 30-year-old to leave.
And Zenit have confirmed that they would be keen.
"We’ve always been interested in him", commented Zenit sporting director Igor Korneev to Sovietsky Sport when questioned about a speculated bid.
Whether Arshavin would be ready to quit Arsenal remains to be seen, but the opportunity to move back to Zenit, where he is still regarded as something of a hero, would no doubt be an attractive one.
A regular first team spot would also be guaranteed – something that the midfielder has found hard to cement at the Emirates.
