Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has explained that he is happy with the performance his players put in at Wigan last night in their 0-0 draw.

Dalglish believes that the point gained was hard-fought, although Liverpool were rampant in the opening twenty minutes, failing however to make the breakthrough, and also missing a penalty later when Charlie Adam saw his spot-kick saved after 51 minutes.

Nevertheless, the Liverpool boss was pleased with what he saw, even if a draw at the DW Stadium looks two points dropped rather than one point won.

"Obviously we were disappointed not to come away with the three points", said Dalglish.

"We started really well for 20 minutes, they got back in it a wee bit, but I think in the second half we controlled the game.

"We made a few chances, they had a few efforts at goal as well, but I think overall we are happy with the performance.

"It’s a hard-fought draw to come here and get a point."

Liverpool’s poor run in front of goal continued however, with the Reds managing just 20 goals in their 17 Premier League games so far this season.

£35M striker Andy Carroll spent most of the evening on the bench, only being brought on for Luis Suarez with four minutes left.
