Diego Simeone has been appointed as the new coach of Atletico Madrid in succession to Gregorio Manzano.
The Argentine has agreed to take charge of the Vicente Calderon outfit until the end of the 2012/13 season – signing in effect an 18-month contract.
Simeone is a fan favourite at Atletico and until recently had bossed Argentine outfit Racing Club.
Manzano was sacked after losing in the Copa del Rey in midweek to lowly Albacete.
He left Atletico sitting 10th in La Liga.
