Wealthy Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala look to have been ruled out of the running for Sao Paulo star Lucas, while Chelsea and Liverpool will have to wait to pounce.

The highly rated 19-year-old midfielder is being tracked by some of Europe’s biggest sides and Anzhi, who have splashed cash on the likes of Roberto Carlos and Samuel Eto’o, were keen to steal a march in the race for the Brazilian.

But Lucas’ agent has confirmed that only a move to an elite club will be considered and, for the likes of English Premier League duo Chelsea and Liverpool, who have been monitoring the starlet closely, there was also the news that the midfielder should remain in Brazil for at least the next two years.

"If Lucas leaves Brazil then it will be to one of the largest clubs in Europe", said South American super agent Wanger Ribeiro.

"He could go to Anzhi when he’s 35 years old", added Lucas’ representative.

Other clubs received less immediate encouragement too.

"The goal of Lucas is to make history with Sao Paulo.

"He plans to play in Europe, but right now it’s too soon for that.

"In three years, when he is 22, that will be the perfect time to leave Brazil."
