Napoli have officially confirmed the arrival of Chilean forward Eduardo Vargas.
The 22-year-old was a player in demand after shining with Universidad de Chile in his homeland and being widely tipped as the next Alexis Sanchez.
Scouts from Europe’s biggest clubs flocked to Chile to watch Vargas, with Chelsea and Manchester City keen to secure his services, while there was also concrete interest from Inter.
But sources in Chile confirmed that in the final reckoning Napoli had beaten Chelsea to the forward’s signature on 18th December.
And now official confirmation from the Italian club has arrived.
"I officially announce the arrival of Vargas", said Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
"We beat several other big clubs", he added.
