Manchester United striker Federico Macheda has ruled out returning to Italy for another loan stint in January, but admitted he is the market to get more playing time under his belt in England.

Macheda has struggled for time on the pitch at Old Trafford, but there is no suggestion he is ready to end his spell with the champions – instead he will look for a repeat of the temporary move he made last season, when he joined Sampdoria.

That Serie A spell though has put the 20-year-old off returning to his homeland and made a switch within England more likely, with Wigan Athletic the latest side to be linked with the striker.

"Now it doesn’t feel right to return to Italy as for six months I had a bad time at Sampdoria, where it was very hard to adapt", Macheda told lalaziosiamonoi.it.

"Then the team was not right, so it was hard and I’m not thinking of returning to Italy in January, but instead staying in England and playing a little more here.

"The only team I would go to is Lazio, other places wouldn’t be right."

Macheda began his career with Lazio, playing in the club’s youth ranks before making a controversial switch to Manchester United in 2007.
