Rubin Kazan hitman Obafemi Martins is believed to have turned down the chance to move to Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.

The 27-year-old had been targeted by the Blue Devil, who have recently snapped up Nicolas Anelka from Chelsea, along with appointing former Bordeaux boss Jean Tigana as coach.

Anelka’s Chelsea team-mate Didier Drogba has also been chased and could land in China.

But Nigerian forward Martins will not be joining the Shanghai revolution.

The former Newcastle United hitman is thought to have vetoed a proposed switch and stated his desire to remain with Russian Premier League outfit Rubin Kazan.

Martins spent part of last season on loan at English club Birmingham City, picking up a League Cup winners medal in the process.
