Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has revealed that he will not be bringing a new striker to St. James’ Park in the January transfer window.

Pardew had been keen to resurrect a summer move for Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga, but the player’s medical revealed a number of concerns which led to Newcastle calling off the deal.

And not signing the Mali man has meant Newcastle will now duck out of signing a forward completely in the winter window.

"I don’t think we’ll be bringing a striker in in this window after the collapse of Maiga, which we put a lot of work into. I think as far as we’re concerned we’ll go with what we’ve got", said Pardew.

"You have to pay over the odds in this window, everybody does, and you have to accept that if you’re going to invest in this window.

"But we won’t be in terms of a striker."

Newcastle could instead add to their defence, with sources in France having already reported a bid from the Magpies arriving for Lyon left back Aly Cissokho.
