A January transfer window exit from Inter for Cristian Chivu has been played down by his agent.
Chivu’s contract with the Nerazzurri expires at the end of the current campaign and in recent weeks Ajax, Real Madrid and Liverpool have been mooted as being keen on securing his services.
For the 31-year-old defender, who can also operate in midfield, a four-year association with Inter looked to be coming to an end.
But the Romanian’s agent, Giovanni Becali, has insisted his client’s future is a little more opaque, while at the same time dashing talk that he could leave Italy in January.
"I think he will stay at Inter in January", said Becali.
"I do not think it is possible that he could leave so soon.
"There are too many things making an operation like this difficult."
Indeed, according to Becali, even increasing his Inter contract may not be out of the question for Chivu.
"Towards the end of March, Inter will make their assessments for the upcoming season based on how they are doing in Serie A and the Champions League.
"So then we will sit around a table and see what happens. There we will decide what Chivu will do next season."
