Real Madrid have made Neymar their number one summer transfer target.
Jose Mourinho was disappointed to miss out on the 19-year-old last summer, as the striker opted to remain with Santos and even signed a new deal with the South American champions.
Neymar was desperate to lead Santos to victory in the Club World Cup earlier this month, but the Copa Libertadores holders found themselves outclassed in the final by Barcelona and were handed a 4-0 thrashing.
The Blaugrana have been linked with the Brazilian too, with Neymar admitting he admires Lionel Messi, but Real Madrid do not want to lose out on a player they have tracked for the best part of 18 months.
And Real Madrid are ready to return to Santos with a substantial bid after the 2012 Olympics in London.
Neymar is keen to play in the tournament with Brazil and concluding a deal before that time would prove difficult.
Mourinho will use all his powers of persuasion to convince Neymar that 2012 is the right time to land at the Bernabeu.
