Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that new Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti could return to the Blues in an attempt to sign players he worked with when in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Villas-Boas replaced Ancelotti at Chelsea last summer and the Italian has only just made his return to the game at the Parc des Princes.
And talk in the French capital is of the 52-year-old looking closely at Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda, Salomon Kalou and Frank Lampard.
But though Villas-Boas admitted that "it’s a situation that can happen", when discussing managers returning to their former clubs to sign players, he dismissed the possibility of it occurring at Chelsea.
"They’re not for sale", said the Portuguese.
Villas-Boas did admit though that PSG, backed by the sovereign wealth fund of Qatar, are able to make attractive offers to players, although stressed Chelsea have a history of success to fall back on.
"We are speaking about new ambitions, new clubs with great financial power being involved in great transfer market activity.
"That can attract players, but look at what is being built here and our recent history in the Premier League, of winning titles.
"We’ve had European trophies and great FA Cup wins, but the most successful period of the club happened from 2000 onwards. I would say this plays a part in any player’s ambition.
"There’s big investment now with Qatari owners, but I am not sure whether players would respond to their call as they would from the most prestigious clubs out there."
