Sir Alex Ferguson is targeting another three years as Manchester United manager.

The veteran Scot turned 70 yesterday, although his birthday was marred by Blackburn Rovers winning 3-2 at Old Trafford.

Ferguson is not planning on stepping down soon though, with staying in the Red Devils’ dugout until 73 his aim, as long as he continues to be fit and healthy.

"I hope I have a long time left", the United boss told MUTV.

"I am still enjoying it. We have defeats, but compared to what we have achieved, they are minuscule.

"As long as my health stays up, I would hope to have another three years at the club."

The legendary manager also declared his intention not to let age dictate how long he will remain in post.

"As someone who loves his job I am not about to let my years alone dictate my future."
