Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that his side are in a fight for a top four spot.
The Portuguese’s turbulent reign at Stamford Bridge continued yesterday with Aston Villa visiting and leaving with a shock 3-1 victory.
The result sees Chelsea sit fifth in the Premier League and means they enter the new year outside the Champions League top four spots for the first time in ten years.
And Villas-Boas is not now talking in title-challenging terms, but instead of holding onto the Blues’ top four status.
"Now we are fifth, below the top four, but we have to wait and see", said the Chelsea boss, going on to point to the fact that the games are coming thick and fast at present.
"It can change within 48 hours though. That is a good thing. We have a chance to produce something."
The former FC Porto coach admitted though that his side’s goals have changed.
"Our reality is a fourth-placed finish, but that is not good enough.
"We have to continue to pursue the best possible finish in the league and a humble finish for this club."
Next up for Chelsea is a trip to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday before taking a break from Premier League action to play Portsmouth in the FA Cup next weekend.
