Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has bemoaned his side’s inability to beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light yesterday in their Premier League clash.

Despite dominating the game for large periods and carving out a number of chances to score, the Citizens succumbed to a late goal from Sunderland star Ji Dong-won.

The 1-0 defeat meant that City lost their chance to open up daylight at the top of the table over rivals Manchester United, who had lost at home to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

For Mancini, it was very much a chance missed.

"We missed a big opportunity because we had a chance to go three points up on United", said the Italian.

"We are in an unlucky moment because we keep missing these chances to score.

"We deserved to win this game, it’s incredible, but this is football."

Next up for City is a tough clash against Liverpool at Eastlands, before a heavyweight FA Cup third round clash against rivals Manchester United.
