Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has hailed Thierry Henry as "brave" for eyeing a loan return to the Gunners.

Manager Arsene Wenger recently revealed that only the paperwork needed to be completed in order for Henry to rejoin the club he left in 2007 on a two-month loan move.

Henry currently turns out for New York Red Bulls and, with the MLS season on its post-season break, the Frenchman is free to play elsewhere until March.

For Van Persie, seeing Henry return is exciting and at the same time brave, with many former players having clouded their first successful spell at a club by a less successful second.

"It is fantastic", said Van Persie of Henry’s potential return.

"For him to come back is something so brave. He has nothing to prove. He has a statue here – only a couple of players have that. He broke every single record at Arsenal – he won everything here."

And the Dutchman has been impressed by the condition Henry is in.

"He is unbelievable, even in training. He had a couple of sessions and – I don’t want to put too much pressure on him – but he is looking right up there.

"He is looking very good. He knows when to drop, he knows when to make a one-two. He knows all these things. I am looking forward to it so much."
