Former England coach Steve McClaren is on the brink of an emotional return to FC Twente.

The Englishman is wanted by the Tukkers to succeed Co Adriaanse, who has lost the confidence of Twente chairman Joop Munsterman.

Twente continue to rate McClaren highly and well remember that the former Manchester United assistant manager led the club to the 2010 Eredivisie title.

McClaren then left for Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, but was sacked by the German side after failing to get the most from his charges.

The Englishman had a short spell at Nottingham Forest earlier this season and has been open in his opinion that he should never have left Twente in the first place.

The only question mark hangs over just how long McClaren will sign for.

He could ink a six-month deal or a one-and-a-half-year contract.
