Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing wants instant revenge over Manchester City for the Reds’ 3-0 defeat at Eastlands last night – and the Englishman believes Steven Gerrard could be key to getting it.
Spearing was deployed in the middle of a five-man midfield and despite a display full of energy and desire, could not stop Liverpool being steamrollered by the Citizens.
However, Liverpool do not have to wait long to face City again, with the first of a two-legged League Cup semi-final against Roberto Mancini’s men coming on 11th January.
And Spearing is sure the Reds have what it takes to bounce back.
"We know what we have to do better when we come back here next week in the Carling Cup and we will be better”, the midfielder told Liverpool’s official site.
“We will get at them right from the off and I still feel we can cause them a lot of problems.
“They are going to be two massive games and I don’t see any reason why we can’t make the final.”
Indeed, Spearing believes that Gerrard, who did not start at Eastlands, could make the difference.
"We have Steven Gerrard back now and he is a massive influence on the team and we will go into the two games with confidence."
